North of England Dalmatian Club Ch Show 9th November 2025
I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the club for inviting me, but mostly the members for voting for me to judge their Dalmatians. With a phenomenal entry of 176/223 and only 7 dogs and 7 bitches absent, it was destined to be a long day. Thank you to my able stewards Steve Whiting and Stephen Addy for keeping me in check.
I was pleased with the quality of my winners, and many good specimens were further down the line or even not placed, such was the quality in some classes. Other classes were equally as difficult, as they lacked quality. Breeders have a responsibility to be honest when selling pups as ‘show potential’. Kennel blindness will not help the breed. I have observed from ringside that exaggerated and weak hindquarters are appearing more and more. I was therefore looking for a well-balanced Dalmatian with moderate and adequate front angles, with complimentary rear angles to enable free, effortless movement. It is an endurance breed, but many could not do a day’s work without causing fatigue or injury.
Some exhibits were unsound/lame on the move, with some pacing. This impacted on my decisions. Some were impeded by their handlers. On the up and down, if you want to change hands rather than just turn your dog around, ensure you have the correct type of lead. I am seeing this more increasingly, and most dogs find this uncomfortable as a slip lead will pinch them, and they pull away. This impacted on movement. Mouths were correct apart from one, and temperaments were delightful, with only a few a little in awe of their day, but patience and gentle nurturing should solve this. The dreaded ‘Dally rash’ also affected some placings, and some were actually just plain dirty.
Special Junior Veteran Dog 3 (1a)
1st Green & Sears Alphadal Ain’t Misbehaving At Judally JW. 7-Year-old L/s in lovely condition. Good solid dog, masculine but elegant. Handsome head, plain face but alert and kind expression, Ears nicely framing face. Good shoulder with correct front assembly enabling elbows to be carried close to body. Good spring of rib, excels in thigh with second thigh present, with good feet that carried him around the ring with ease. Good fluid movement. A little longer cast, but strong straight back, a well-balanced dog. He has improved with age and was pleased to award him BVD, beating his sire in the challenge, and overall BVIS.
2nd Williams & Tanswell’s Tolkain Storm King from Phandante JW. Another 7 Yr Old but B/s. Attractive head, dark eye. Made on a nice frame. A little rangier than 1. Moderate angles and enough bone. Feet ok. On the move would prefer a longer stride as can appear stilted at time, but a happy showman did enough to get his placing today.
3rd Sims’ Ch Mullabuoy Magic Man for Snowspeeder JW.
Special Veteran Dog 2 (1a)
1st Goodwen’s Ch Alphadal’s King of Angels ShCM VW. Another slow burner from this kennel, having great success as a veteran. 10 yr old B/s with an elegant and handsome head. Oozes breed type. Correct height, make and shape. Good sound body with deep chest. Excellent bone and hindquarters with correct bend of stifle, well let down hocks, excellent feet. His construction ensures that he drives around the ring with ease. I have done this boy well in the past, awarding him RCC last time I judged. Still an excellent example of the breed but apparently had to give way to his son today.
2nd McCarthys’ Fr Int Ch Ir Ch Domdallino Je Suis Kilndandy JW. Almost 12 years, L/s looking remarkable for his age, a good example of the longevity of our breed. Handsome head, lovely body and spring of rib on this boy. Deep brisket, elbows carried nicely close to his body, well boned, good width of thigh, in excellent condition, just a little unsound on the move today, but overall a lovely Dalmatian.
Baby Puppy Dog 2(0a)
Two absolutely lovely puppies.
1st Brooks & De Rozarrio’s Jemblewood Resolute Stork. 4 month b/s baby. Beautiful head with the darkest of eyes and good ear carriage. Most mature of the two. Good front assembly with elbows well placed. Well bodied with good depth of chest already, good width of thigh chunky hindquarters bodes well for a strong well muscled rear. Excellent feet. Covered the ground with such ease with a more positive movement than 2 at this stage. Just loved him. BBPIS
2nd Davies’ Teghafren Black Knight. B/s just a touch older of the two, but the real baby. Lots to like. Pretty head with dark eyes, on a smaller frame but nicely boned. A little more in awe of his day, but moved nicely and at one with his handler.
Baby Puppy Bitch 2 (0a)
2 raw babies but just delightful.
1st Smith’s Dalamour’s Irish Rose at Spotamour (Imp Ire). 4 month b/s girl with such a pretty head and dark eyes. Excellent bone and feet, good width of thigh. Morre positive on the move really enjoying her day. Clean movement fore and aft, striding well around the ring. I’m sure handler will have some fun with this one.
2nd Gill’s Jemblewood Stork of Solace. L/s dark liver with beautiful pigment, eyes of correct colour. Really loved the type of this girl, just not as positive as 1 on the move at this stage. Plenty of bone, with good depth of chest. Not as confident as 1 yet, but I am sure she has a good future.
Special Beginners Dog 9 (1a)
A very difficult class to judge with varying types, quality and age.
1st Burke’s Hafwenna The Red Viper at Dindradot. 3yr old today. B/s upstanding male. Head a little plain, but nice dark eyes gave a kind expression. Nicely balanced with good length of back. Well off for bone with nice feet. A little straight in upper arm, but good spring of rib and good width of thigh, covered the ground well with a steady movement.
2nd Leak’s Tamilanda Continental Icon. 5yr old b/s with nice pigment on a clear crisp coat. Good head with dark eyes. nicely broken ears framing his face. Longer in back but well balanced. Would prefer tidier feet. Adequate width of thigh, covered the ground well.

1st Clement’s A Spotified Young Forseti for Perdita’s (Imp Bel). 7 month dark l/s. Lovely make and shape, well up for size so hope he doesn’t’ grow on too much. Excels in head with a beautifully marked face and dark eyes. Excellent front and pro sternum, elbows carried well. Plenty of bone, excellent width of thigh, strong well let down hocks. Good round feet. Good topline, rolling a little on the move at present. But still a real baby. Look forward to watching this boy develop.

Junior Dog 4 (2a)
Two lovely examples who could easily change places.
1st Alexander’s Offordale Belvedere. L/s of good substance. Handsome head with good reach of neck and defined wither flowing to a level back. Longer cast but well balanced. Good depth of chest though would like a bit more fill in front to complete the picture. Well off for bone with really good feet. Excellent width of thigh and good 2nd thigh. Well let down and straight hocks. Covers the ground well, though a tendency to roll a little. Hope this settles as he matures, I’m sure top honours will come his way.
2nd Story-Taylor’s Bayonspark Zeus at Kesteven. B/s very handsome youngster. Beautiful head, masculine but not coarse in any way. Good dark eye and kind expression. Defined wither into a level back, shorter than 1. Tends to be a little upright in pastern, down to good feet. Nice width of thigh and depth of chest, once brisket drops a little, will complete the picture. Moved well and unlucky to meet 1 today.
3rd Evans’ Hafwenna Pie Kid You Not for Troikadal CJW 25
Yearling Dog 2 (0a)
Two lovely Dalmatians who could easily change places.

2nd Watts’ Jaxsondal Rocket Man. L/s of lovely make and shape. Elegant head with correct colour eyes and pigment. Nice front but would benefit from a bit more length of upper arm, brisket needs to drop. Longer cast than 1, good width of thigh and well off for bone. Moved well.
3rd Grant’s Salvadorada Lets Get Loud.
Graduate Dog 6 (0)
1st Quayle’s Cubalibre Sirius Celeste. B/s more compact in type and longer in leg. Just the best of heads with dark eye and really kind expression. A little more upright in front than desired and a bit up on pastern. Good depth of body and width of thigh. Good positive mover, but would prefer a little more length of stride. Happy show boy. Coat stained but he did enough to win this class.
2nd Leak’s Tamilanda Continental Icon. Placed 2nd in SBD.
3rd Richards & Cattermole’s Anima Cordis Man In The Mirror for Kalvadene for Hafwenna (Imp Pol)
Post Graduate Dog 11 (2a)
1st Newton O’Brien’s Cubalibre Solar Eclipse. My ‘find’ of the day. Even though I have been aware of this l/s boy from ringside, he brought a different version of himself today. Excellent handsome head, nicely decorated, dark amber eye. Nice length of neck, defined wither, onto a level back and correct tail set. Excellent front with correct angles and good return of upper arm. Good fill of chest and deep brisket. Nice underline. Good round bone, correct pastern and round feet with well arched toes. Strong thighs with well placed and let down hocks. A sound, balanced Dalmatian, he moved with purpose and drive using an effortless stride, could work all day. A joy to watch, he’s the full package for me and owned the ring, handled beautifully and to advantage. Was pleased to award him DCC, BLD and ultimately BIS.
2nd Davies’ Hafwenna King John at Teghafren. Another lovely l/s Dalmatian. Love his type. Nice head with kind and soft expression. Strong and masculine boy without being coarse or overdone in any way, good shoulder placement, good depth of chest and well sprung ribs. Good level topline. Well-muscled hindquarters, good feet. Effortless on the move, well handled. Called him back in for the challenge as feel he deserved further consideration. Unfortunately, he had some strong competition today,
3rd Bickerdike’s Jaxondal Crème De La Crème at Koroyza.

A good class of quality dogs.

2nd Chance & Dodds’ Apache Dream Catching for Dotlun. Another nice l/s though more understated than 1, nevertheless a good dog. Correct head. Kind expression and dark eye, of a lovely colour. Good front with elbows neatly carried. Level back with good topline. Nice width of thigh, good feet. Moved out well with no fuss.
3rd Moss’ Sadiedel Let Ur Heart Decide JW
Open Dog 10(0)
A nice class which meant some good examples were further down the line or not placed.
1st Croft’s Koroyza Viking Voyager L/s more compact and of correct size. Muscular workmanlike dog in excellent condition. Kind expression on a lovely head. Good front with well placed shoulders. Deep chest, shorter coupled, level back with tail set on well. Strong hindquarters, excellent width of thigh, well placed and let down hocks. Moved with purpose and drive. No flash, just does the job. Pleasure to watch. Loved this boy as a pup but he appeared to go off my radar, but wow, today he came back with a bang. Handled sympathetically to enable him to just show himself off. Unlucky to meet PG winner on such good form, but thrilled to award him RCC and RBIS.
2nd Norgrove & Pratt’s Ch Sassydals Flugel Horn. L/s favourite of mine, gave him the RCC in the past, and glad to see he has his title since. Sill looking fantastic, every inch the Ch he is. Distinct spotting on a clear coat. Well made, longer cast, but balanced. Strong bone down to correct feet. There is nothing else I can add to the accolades I haver bestowed upon him in the past. A quality Dalmatian.
3rd Pages’ & Howell’s Ch Olilou Heavenly Hamilton by Winflash.

1st Townson & Pardoe’s Ch Kaytoni Oh What A Night with Daymadals B/s with the densest of pigment on a frame of correct size, make and shape. Masculine head with dark eye and kind expression. Strong neck into well laid shoulders and level strong back. Well set tail, excellent hindquarters, correct bend of stifle, well let down hocks. Despite his strength, displays an elegant, rhythmic movement. Effortless. A lovely Dalmatian. Pleased to get my hands on him at last, he didn’t disappoint. BLD
2nd Ch Doltun Apache Running Bear JW L/s of lovely make and shape but on a taller frame. Beautiful head with correct colour eye, well broken ears framing his face. Elegant length of neck, level back and good topline held well on the move. Good lay of shoulders and front assembly, though pasterns a little upright. Strong hindquarters with good width of thigh. Moved out well.
3rd Sampson’s Ch Dalstorm Golden Guinea JW
Special Junior Veteran Bitch 6 (2a)
1st Richard’s Divazzi Desire For Romance at Hafwenna VW 8 yr old B/s of sound workmanlike type. Pretty head with dark eye. Elegant neck down to defined wither and level back. Good forechest, plenty of fill, Correct and moderate angles front and rear complimenting each other. Good width of thigh with second thigh present. Plenty of round bone down to tight feet. Covers the ground so well, understated in everyway, just does the job. Tendency to carry a little weight, but a good enough Dalmatian to win this class today. Fits the standard nicely and I feel has often been overlooked.
2nd Tingey’s Dallydyor Secret Addiction. A smashing girl of 7 yrs old. B/s nicely decorated elegant girl. Lovely type, make and shape. Elegant head dark eye and alert expression. Long reach of neck into well placed shoulders. A little longer in body than 1, waggy tail set on and carried well. Well off for bone, well let down hocks, good cat feet. Covers the ground well on the move, a lovely girl I have always admired, just pipped by 1 today.
3rd Gardner’s Ch Dvojica Chilli Chutney for Wrendragge JW. I feel compelled to comment, even though 3rd as her placing did not reflect any lack of quality. Having given her the CC in the past, today her movement wasn’t quite sound. Probably my favourite Dalmatian of recent times.
Special Veteran Bitch 2 (1a)
1st Jenkins & Ridgway’s Luccombe Strawberry Kisses VW 10 yr old B/s on a taller frame. Good dark eye on an elegant head with kind expression. Good length of neck, nicely placed shoulder, though a little short in upper arm. Well bodied, level back, would like a little more width of thigh. Certainly not showing her age. Moved well.
2nd Hartley’s Creaganbrec Glory Be at Miragua. 12 yr old happy B/s with lovely dark eye and a beaming smile for me. Compact on a smaller frame than 1. Shorter in back with a steeper croup. Adequate depth of chest. Showed well, did not stop wagging. A lovely ambassador for the longevity of the breed.
Special Beginners Bitch 11 (2a)
A very mixed class of ages, development, type and quality made this a difficult class to judge.
1st Penn’s Dalfelin Agape at Dalarisa 5 yr old B/s with lighter decoration, but dense spotting on a pure white coat. Pretty head, well proportioned with dark eyes. Arched neck into defined wither. Well laid shoulders, level topline. Capacious chest with good heart and lung room. Good width of thigh with well let down hocks to round feet. Positive mover, good length of stride with plenty of drive. Won this class on maturity and type.
2nd Hunter’s Salvadorada Her Highness Almost 3 yr old l/s on a longer frame. Lovely head, feminine with dark eye. Excellent shoulder, good deep chest with well sprung ribs. Excels in width of thigh, well set hocks, well let down, good second thigh. Correct round feet. Even though on the larger size, maintains femininity. Quality girl.
3rd Pedlar’s Caperalla Diamond
Minor Puppy Bitch 10 (1a)
Another mixed bag of size and type. Some small, some on the tall side and rangy and gangly at this stage with some not yet having control of their legs.
1st Wilkins’ Salvadorada Look At Me. And I certainly did! 6 ½ month old l/s girl looking exactly as she should at this age. A solid little girl, but very much the baby. Very pretty with a beautiful head, well proportioned. A nice strong neck into a well laid shoulder. Plenty of bone, excellent width of thigh and developed second thigh already. Well let down hocks. Such a happy youngster. Impressed me with her effortless stride around the ring, a pleasure to watch. Still plenty of maturing to do but she stole the show. She held her back level the whole time which won her the class, subsequent classes, BPB and ultimately BPIS.
2nd Newton’s Salvadorada Light It Up for Chizzmic. Dark l/s on a slightly bigger frame. Very much a baby. Good head with dark eye. Solid bone, longer in body than 1, who it would appear is her litter sister. She also excels in thigh, and 2nd thigh already evident. Happy girl enjoying her day, she covered the ground well.
3rd Christie’s Sophtspot Wild Child
Puppy Bitch 4 (0a)
1st Wilkins’ Salvadorada Look At Me Winner of MPB continued to show her socks off to take this class.
2nd Richardson’s Mapplewell Queen Bee B/s beautiful girl. Compact in make and shape with a pretty head and good ear carriage framing her face. Adequate front but a little straighter in upper arm. Well bodied with deep chest. Nice level topline, well muscled hindquarters, good round bone down to nice round feet. Lovely pup handled and moving well. Should have a promising future.
3rd Christie’s Sophtspot Whirlwind
Junior Bitch 7 (1a)
1st Howard-Riddle’s Shydally Stars Aligned Densely b/s girl with a pretty feminine head and dark eyes giving an alert and kind expression. Nice reach of neck. Well bodied with good heart and lung room. Good front assembly with pro sternum, correct shoulder placement, level topline held well. Good width of thigh with well let down hocks. Front and hindquarters compliment each other well resulting in good efficient movement. Can go a little close behind but settled into a more pleasing gait.
2nd Richards’ Arthica You’ll Be In My Heart at Hafwenna L/s longer cast than 1. Pretty head though eyes could be darker to complete the picture. Well off for bone. Coat not in the best condition but could not hold her back for that today. Lovely hindquarters with good bend of stifle. Elegant, moved well.
3rd Page & Howell’s Olilou Its Gucci at Winflash
Yearling Bitch 4 (1a)
1st and 2nd litter sisters that both have excellent but different attributes and could change place on another day.
1st Wareham & Wylde’s Tamilanda Gold Standard at Dotsadaisy L/s with lovely dense pigment. Lovely head though would like slightly darker eye. Alert expression. On a longer frame, well off for bone, nice feet. Good angles front and rear compliment each other well. Would like a little more depth of chest, but still young and has some maturing to do. Enjoying her day and distracted at times, but when she settles to the job has a fluid movement and I preferred her length of stride to her sister. Covers the ground with ease.
2nd Tilson’s Tamilanda Rose Gold at Elabri JW L/s sister to 1 with same deep colour. Similar attributes with a lovely head but again would benefit from a little darker eye. Good angles and a deeper chest than her sister. Moved nicely but did not cover the ground as efficiently as 1 which reflected in my placing today. A quality girl.
3rd Smith’s Tockica First Love for Spotamour Bih JCH
Maiden Bitch 2 (1a)
1st Newton’s Salvadorada Light It Up for Chizzmic 2nd in MPB
2nd Davies’ Hafwenna Fruit Loop B/s dense pigment with pretty head. On a completely different frame, narrow and lacking substance. Lacks breed type hence unplaced in her previous 2 classes.
Novice Bitch 7 (0a)
1st Wilkins’ Salvadorada Look At Me Winner of MPB and PB couldn’t overlook her here.
2nd Whincup, Jackson & Watts’ Jaxsondal Blushing Akito Dense b/s girl with a beautiful head and dark eyes. Elegant neck into correct shoulder placement. Level topline with level back. Excellent width of thigh correct hindquarters with good bend of stifle, tight feet. Not showing herself to advantage today, or showing the same confidence of 1, however could not overlook the fact that she was the truest mover fore and aft in the class, which earned her the placing. Covered the ground with ease, nice type.
3rd Hill’s Dalstorm Just A Samba
Graduate Bitch 13 (0a)
1st Sampson’s Just So Salsa JW L/s beautiful make and shape, strong but elegant. Gives a lovely outline on the stand. Nice head though would like a more defined stop to give better definition. Intelligent expression, long arched neck into defined wither. Well laid back shoulder onto level back. Excellent depth of brisket and spring of rib. Good round bone down to tight feet. Excels in rear with strong thighs. An athlete of a girl in good hard condition, covers ground with little effort but does tend to be a little close going away.
2nd Howard’s Decoda Treasure Chest B/s with sparse but adequate decoration on a crisp white coat. Built on a larger frame but not losing femininity. Beautiful head, nicely spotted, strong but not coarse in any way. Dark eyes give a lovely expression. Good front, deep capacious chest, level topline with well set tail. Well muscled thighs of good width, well let down hocks, round tight feet. Nice rhythmic action on the move, covered the ground well.
3rd Donnelly’s Tamilanda Golden Leaf
Post Graduate Bitch 11 (2a)
1st Sampson’s Dalstorm Just Waltzing JW L/s litter sister to previous class winner, and very much the same type, workmanlike girl with pretty much the same attributes. Pretty head but I would prefer a bit more colour. Well set neck into a strong wither and level back. Good tail set and carriage. Correct front, good straight front legs onto tight feet. Excels in strong hindquarters with good width of thigh. Covers the ground with a good economical stride, though a little close behind. Another in good hard condition.
2nd Tingey’s Dallydor White Magnolia JW Another l/s but on a larger frame. A quality girl with a charming head and pretty face nicely spotted. Alert with a dark eye, good ear set and carriage. Nice neck into level back, longer in loin but holds a level topline. Good width of thigh and round bone. Good clean mover covers the ground well. Feels lovely under hand.
3rd Quayle’s Cubalibre Star Attraction JW
Limit Bitch 20 (5a)
A beautiful strong class with some lovely bitches further down the line. My first 2 were so similar, it was a hard decision, both of a similar type with good clean lines and I just had to split hairs.
1st Tysterman’s Carodal Jacob’s Ladder A close call between 1 and 2, both quality l/s girls. This elegant girl has caught my eye from the ringside and she did not disappoint me once I got my hands on her. Beautiful feminine head, nicely decorated with dark eye and good ear carriage framing her face. Nicely arched neck into good shoulder placement, solid level back to well set tail. Adequate depth of chest, correct front assembly. Good rear with width of thigh, well let down hocks, round feet. Effortless mover, just covers the ground well with a beautiful outline.
2nd Stebbings’ Steyndal Baroness l/s with a lovely head and expression with good ear carriage. Elegant neck into good shoulder well laid back, and good level topline. Nice depth of chest and underline. Good width of thigh and well let down hocks. Just loved this girl on the move, she really is quality. Sadly today she was just a bit out of coat, so I had to hold this against her for 1st place as they were so similar. I later found out that I had given her BPIB the last time I judged, and she has now changed owners. I am she will go all of the way once she settles into her new family. I wish her a happy future.
3rd Locke-McFazdean & Lopes Fortuna Phoenixx Rising Over Sassafrass (Imp USA) JW
Open Bitch 6 (1a)
1st Phillip & Dunnachie’s Dvojica Filthy Gorgeous B/s bitch on a lovely frame. Excellent make and shape, moderate in every way with nothing overdone. Nice head with alert expression. Dark eye, good ear carriage framing her face, a little more length of neck would be an advantage, but it flows into a defined wither onto a good level back, good tail set and carriage. Deep chest, good hindquarters with well muscled width of thigh, well set hocks, strong bone into good tight feet. Effortless mover, nothing flashy, just does the job. As I would expect, totally at one with her handler getting the best out of her. RCC
2nd Whincup’s Ch Tamilanda Continental Gold CW21 L/s favourite of mine, judged her as a youngster and she has developed into a beautiful girl gaining the title she deserved. Beautiful head with nice ear carriage, elegant neck into a level back, longer than 1. Excels in width of thigh with good hindquarters that drive her around the ring with ease. Not always the most enthusiastic showgirl, no flash and dash, but a good easy stride.
3rd Finlay’s Ch Dvojica Excuse My French at Dalfin JW
Champion Bitch 4 (0a)
1st Quayle’s Ch Cubalibre Wishing Star JW L/s of the richest colour and beautiful decoration. Have admired her since a pup and she has developed into a quality bitch. Pretty head and expression with spotty face framed by well carried ears. Elegant neck into a level back. Well angled front of good proportions with good length of upper arm and good return to enable elbows to be placed close to body. Deep chest. Excellent width of thigh and bend of stifle giving real drive and purpose on the move. Effortless. Pleased to award BCC but she missed out to her brother who beat her in the challenge.
2nd Pickup’s Ch Dotlun English Rose at Roadcoach L/s on a smaller frame but a quality package. Alert expression on a pretty spotted face. Nice dark eye, broken ears frame the picture. Good front assembly with elbows carried close to her deep chest. Good width of thigh, well let down hocks. Moved well with correct footfall.
3rd Howard-Riddle’s Ch Shydally Star Attraction
Janet Saunders (Dallydyl)
