BDC Open May 2022 Judged by Ms Josiane Kaal
British Dalmatian Club Open Show – Saturday 14th May 2022

I would like to thank the British Dalmatian Club Committee for the opportunity to judge at this open show. Also to all the exhibitors who entered their Dalmatians and accepted my placings with such good grace. Thank you to my two efficient stewards, Elaine Tilson and Brian Chessell, who kept everything running smoothly, as well as those who gave up their time to ensure the show could run. Without these people who give up their time we would not be able to enjoy our hobby.

Minor Puppy Dog (3-1A)
1st Wootton’s Tolkain Caliban
, this black spotted 8 month old had a handsome masculine head set on elegant neck, still needs to tighten up in the front, but he had good rear angulation, he won this class as more settled on the move than 2nd place
2nd Christie’s Sophtspot Perfect Storm, just 6 months old, this black spotted boy was a delight to meet, stood he presented a balanced outline, still very much a puppy in head and he wasn’t as settled on the move as 1st place

2nd Croft’s Koroyza Viking Voyager, 14 month old, liver spotted boy of a different make and shape, shown in tip top condition, he has an elegant balanced outline when stood, it was a shame that on the move he kept trying to put his head down which meant his movement seemed less relaxed than 1st place

3rd Hobbs & Whiting’s Rapanooey Ranunculus

Wow what a class of up and coming male dogs, I was splitting hairs with my first three in this class, all wonderful examples of the breed, whose movement was effortless and free flowing, it was breath-taking to watch this class power around the ring.

1st Townson & Pardoe’s Kaytoni Oh What A Night at Daymadals, this 3 year old I had not had the pleasure of judging before, and only ever seeing him from the ringside it was fantastic to be able to get hands on this great stamp of a male dog, strong masculine head, balanced outline stood and on the move, he has the darkest of pigment, so his bold black spotting stands out on a crisp white background which really catches the eye, he powered around the ring from his muscular back end and won today on his maturity and depth of chest it was my pleasure to award him, Best Dog, Best Black Dog, Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex in Show
2nd Sampson’s Dalstorm Golden Guinea JW, 3 year old, black spotted, different make and shape to 1st place, but still an outstanding example of a male dog, handsome masculine head with intelligent expression, elegant balanced outline when stood and on the move, another I had not judged before and a pleasure to finally be able to get hands on him, his tail never stopped wagging really at one with his handler, Reserve Best Dog

3rd Richards’ Hafwenna Blackbird

Puppy Bitch (6-0)

The future looks bright with such a lovely crop of puppies in this class and the last.
1st Collier’s Kallierbelle Ceithir, this 11 month old with an even covering of smaller black spots caught my eye, both standing and on the move, well broken ears framed her feminine head, plenty of bone and a good chest with spring of rib, super rear angulation presenting a balanced outline on the stand and on the move, she had a fantastic rapport with her handler, she floated effortlessly around the ring, it was a pleasure to award her Best Puppy Bitch, Best Black Bitch & Best Puppy in Show
