Dalmatian Club Of Scotland Championship Show 13/07/24
Judge: Miss Lauran Wheaton (Acinonyx)
I am extremely grateful to the wonderful Dalmatian Club of Scotland for the invitation to judge your show. The committee were so warm and welcoming, which was much appreciated on this chilly, dreary day. A huge thank you to my two stewards who kept the ring moving smoothly between classes and kept me entertained whilst we were waiting for the other show to finish.
Thank you to all the exhibitors who entered under me and, for the most part, accepted their placings with good grace.
I apologise to the handlers for making you move a lot, some of you were definitely plotting my demise by the end, but I make no apologies to your dogs. On such a cold and damp day this was a necessity. I could see the stiffness and tightness as they came into the ring. Arching toplines, tightness in the hip flexors and shoulders. I could see it from a distance. Unfortunately, no matter how many times they moved, some of them just couldn’t loosen up and there were some absolutely wonderful dogs that had to be placed down the line or even go unplaced as the cold had just gotten to them. I know when you get to a show you want to watch the judging and chat to your mates but you’re doing your dogs no favours by walking them from the car, chucking them in a crate and then just getting them out for a quick wee before going into the ring. If I can offer one piece of advice it’s this: warm your dogs up, move them, stretch them out. Go into the ring giving them the best chance possible.
I am not going to go into all the ins and outs of the issues within the breed. Far more experienced people than me have gone over it before and if you don’t listen to them, you won’t listen to me. However I will say this, if you want to compete with your dog please make sure they are show ready before you step into the ring.
As I have always found when I have judged, temperaments are excellent. It was especially difficult today with the double show, running between rings and swapping dogs, some of them had just had enough by the time they got to me. But, even on a day like today, the dogs wanted to work for their handlers, they wanted to make you proud and they did.
A note on the veterans… absolutely fantastic and can really teach the youngsters a thing or two. Every single one of them really wanted to work, even at the age of 10 or 11, they were keen and happy to be showing. We are so lucky to have these dogs in our breed.
Best In Show, BCC, Best Bitch, Best Black Bitch
Finlay’s Dvojica Excuse My French at Dalfin JW - What can I say, I can’t fault her. In my opinion, she is absolutely outstanding. I’ve judged her before and I feel she has improved so much, I really think there is more to come from her in the future. Her outline is so clean, balanced, elegant. The very first paragraph in the standard “A distinctively spotted dog, balanced, strong, muscular and active. Symmetrical in outline, elegant, free from coarseness and lumber”. For me, this is her description. Ultra feminine without lacking in substance. Beautiful head and expression, the darkest of eyes and used her ears so well. Perfect length of neck, clean withers, great front angulation. Straight, nicely boned fores, fantastic cat feet. Depth and width of chest is perfect to allow all that heart room. In fit, hard condition all through. Excellent topline, strong loin and rear angulation is just right. She can really shift around that ring. Her movement is lithe and active but absolutely no wasted energy. She’s a star.
Reserve Best In Show, DCC, Best Dog, Best Liver dog, Best Opposite Sex
Norgrove’s Sassydals Flugel Horn - This liver boy is a prime example of why we need to move in this breed. Some dogs will strut into the ring and scream at you to look at them, he is not one of those dogs. He strolls in, stands and says “Just wait”. And then he moves. It’s like looking at a different dog. The length of stride, the extension of his front and the drive from the rear is absolutely incredible to watch. You can see this rear action coming from the strong hocks, through the bend of stifle all the way up into his hip. Nose to tail is one fluid line, it is a beautiful example of sound construction and overall fitness. He is in his prime at five years old. Masculine head, correct amber eye colour, ears are set well. Strong neck, great front construction with the lay of shoulder that enables that reach. Well boned and tight feet. Ribs are well sprung and carried well back into a very well muscled loin. Muscling all through is excellent. Finished off with the correct tailset and carriage. His rich liver spotting and crisp white coat is beautiful as well. Sound, fit, honest. I couldn’t ask for anything more from him.
Best Puppy In Show, Best Puppy Dog
Stocks’ Dalmark’s Jubilations at Nospar - For me, this liver boy has matured up young, which is why he wasn’t discounted from the challenge for the ticket, he can hold his own against the big boys. He’s already a large, powerful dog and I hope he doesn’t get any taller. That being said, he’s balanced and that’s the most important thing. Masculine head, with a good width to the skull and strong muzzle. Beautiful amber eyes. Lovely reach of neck, clean through the withers and smooth muscling over his shoulders. Very well boned and the tightest feet. Excellent depth to chest, great topline and underline with a super tuck up giving him that flowing, elegant outline. Rear angulation is very good and first and second thigh muscles are coming along nicely. As he’s a big dog but still with a puppy brain, he does have a tendency to mess around on the move and gives his handler a bit of a hard time. However, when you give him a chance to settle, he moves with accuracy and good drive. He needs to grow up a little bit more, mentally, but he has all the time in the world.
Reserve Best Puppy in Show, Best Puppy Bitch
Turnbull & Wilkins’ Salvadorada Je T’adore - This is an exciting youngster. So clean and elegant in outline. Elegant head with lovely liver pigmentation and amber eyes. Beautifully arched neck into defined withers. Bone is correct for her size and she has a nice spring to her pasterns, great feet. Well ribbed, very strong through her topline especially when she moved. Very firm underhand all through, hind leg muscling is already well developed. She moved with real purpose, for one so young she was very accurate. Was carrying her tail a touch high today but the insertion is fine so this should settle as she matures.
Best Veteran in Show, Best Veteran Bitch, Best Liver Bitch
Gardner’s Ch Dvojica Chilli Chutney for Wrenragge JW - Elegant, classic, beautiful liver bitch. I have watched her for years and I am so pleased that when I went over her, she’s exactly as I expected. She’s not flashy, she is honest and sound. Her outline is balanced with great body proportions. Pretty head, excellent ears, nicely arching neck into clean withers. She has good bone, great feet. Nice width and depth to her chest. Excellent topline and tailset. Balanced rear angulation with clean, strong first and second thigh muscles. Her movement is so accurate, there is no wasted energy here. I would bet she could trot behind a carriage all day long and still come home and ask to go for a little walk.
Reserve Best Veteran in Show, Best Veteran Dog
Neath-Duggan & Baker’s Ch Buffrey Incognito By Dalleaf JW VW - I’m not sure what else can be said about this boldly spotted black boy that hasn’t been written dozens of times over the years. He is the ultimate showman, however, as can be seen by the rest of my judging, this doesn’t mean an automatic win for me. To win this class he had to be masculine and powerful but with a flowing outline, well balanced and sound. He is all these things. He’s not a large, imposing dog. He has a simple elegance to him. He has the most expressive face and a cheekiness to him which is still evident despite his 9 years. He has a great ground covering stride with excellent drive. I think he will always want to work for his handler, I don’t envision a time he will ever stop showing for her.
RDCC, Best Black Dog
Townson & Pardoe’s Ch Kaytoni Oh What A Night With Daymadals - Another boy who does his best work on the move. I’ve judged him before and I still remain impressed with his absolute soundness. Head out in front, reaching forward, driving from behind. He powers around the ring but is so fluid and light on his feet. All male but no coarseness. Balanced head, wonderfully dark eyes and jet black pigmentation. Excellent length of neck into well laid back shoulders. Great bone, fantastic tight feet and a slight spring to the pasterns. Depth of chest is perfectly in balance with his length of leg. Rib cage is well sprung, great topline into a strong loin. Nice bend to the stifle, great strength to the hocks that really give him his great drive. Tailset and carriage is perfect. In my opinion, a very worthy champion.
RBCC
Hurst’s Dvojica Firely For Finnidal - An absolutely charming youngster. She is basically a mini version of the ticket winner. Another one who benefited from moving, the more she moved the more settled and therefore better she got. Elegance and balance are good descriptors for her. Beautiful head and the darkest of eyes, she has this curiosity and thoughtfulness in her expression which is just so endearing. Wonderful reach of neck, excellently constructed forehand. The amount of bone is just right for her size. Ribs are well sprung, great topline, good length of loin. Rear angulation is not overdone, her bend of stifle and strong hocks gave her that forward push whilst allowing for no upthrust on the move. I hope to see her achieve more as she gets older.
Best Baby Puppy In Show
Wilkins’ Salvadorada King Of Hearts - A very appropriate name for this little heartbreaker. He is so sweet and confident already. Lovely head and dark eyes, great pigmentation. Very well boned and nicely shaped feet. Good body length and looks to have a good bend of stifle already. His little thigh muscles are already developing. He bounced around the ring with a real spring in his step.
Best Opposite Sex Baby Puppy
Cobb Gain’s Salvadorada Kit Kat In Kalokairie - Litter sister to the boy and very similarly made. Very pretty, very friendly and confident. She also has beautiful dark eyes. She has good balance of body length to leg length. Not as interested in moving as her brother at the moment but there was very little between them. Should be fun watching them compete in the future.
Baby Puppy Dog (1/0)
1. 101. Wilkins’ Salvadorada King Of Hearts - See main awards above.
Minor Puppy Dog (2/1)
1. 95. Whyte’s Spotamour Ole Ole - This cheeky black patched boy is full of character. Not fazed by the weather, he was up for having a good time. Very masculine head, I would prefer it to be a bit more refined but he has dark eyes and uses his ears well. He does have some missing pigment on his nose which is a shame. Good reach of neck, well off for bone with a good forechest. Quite long in the body but at just 7 months old he could come up on his leg a bit more to balance this out. Correct tailset. Movement was loose but this is to be expected at his young age.
Puppy Dog (3/1)
1. 80. Stocks’ Dalmark’s Jubilations at Nospar - See main awards above.
2. 95. Whyte’s Spotamour Ole Ole - Repeat.
Junior Dog (3/0)
1. 16. Dinsdale’s Dotlun Apache Running Bear - Absolutely outstanding liver youngster. Although a junior he is already so well balanced. Masculine yet refined head, excellent skull to muzzle ratio. Beautiful amber eyes and rich liver colouring. Great length of neck, well laid shoulders, good bone and tight cat feet. His width and depth of chest is right for his height, ribs are carried well back. Strong through his topline and well muscled loin. Balanced rear angulation with good development of second thigh. He made me laugh because he was adamant he wasn’t going out in the rain but when he did, he moved so well. Fluid, graceful and he trots at the correct speed. Strongly considered for the RCC.
2. 51. Newton’s What You See Is What You Get Passionate About You For Chizzmic (Imp Bel) JW - Another striking male, with bold black pigmentation. Strong head, darkest of eyes, uses his ears well. Good reach of neck, well defined withers and well boned fores. Great feet. Good depth of chest and well ribbed. Excellent topline and curving underline. Well bent stifles with clean, strong muscling. He went off like a rocket around the ring, he is so full of enthusiasm which just caused him to overreach at times.
3. 26. Herd’s Dotlun All At Sea With Ricoh
Yearling Dog (2/0)
1. 97. Wilkins’ Salvadorada Heads Will Roll JW - This strikingly marked liver is all male. Presents a clean outline on the stand, well off for bone and substance. Strong head but still has a gentleness to it so he doesn’t appear coarse. Muscular neck and shoulders, well filled forechest, straight forelegs and good feet. Ribs down to his elbows and carried well back. His topline is strong and leads into a muscular loin. Good width of thigh, well angulated at the back and strong hocks. He was showing a touch of tightness in his hip which was causing him to short step slightly on his left side which was a shame as he has great forward reach.
2. 94. Whyte’s Spotamour Midget Gem - Outgoing black youngster with a cheerful disposition. Head is large and not as clean as I would like, he has a groove between his eyes which causes wrinkling of the skin over the forehead. Dark eyes, well pigmented and good ears. He is narrower all through than the first place dog but good for bone. Feet could have been tighter and he needs his nails to be shorter. He carries excellent muscle tone all through but was very tight, particularly in his lumbar spine which meant he carried his topline arched when on the move.
Novice Dog (2/1)
1. 85. Turnbull’s Spotamour Chocolate Éclair At Drengmar - Handsome dark liver boy with a gorgeous, masculine head and lovely amber eyes. Good reach of neck into nicely constructed fore. Great chest, nicely boned fores, with good feet. Ribs are carried well back, he has solid topline and nicely curved underline. Good bend of stifle and excellent second thigh. Carries his tail with a bit of a curl. Moved soundly around the ring, reaches his head forward to give him that nice, smooth action.
Graduate Dog (3/0)
1. 16. Dinsdale’s Dotlun Apache Running Bear - Repeat.
2. 51. Newton’s What You See Is What You Get Passionate About You For Chizzmic(Imp Bel) JW - Repeat.
3. 64. Pilgrim’s Nospar’s Drambuie JW
Post Graduate Dog (0)
Limit Dog (6/1)
1. 55. Norgrove’s Sassydals Flugel Horn - See main awards above.
2. 31. Hobbs & Whiting’s Rapanooey Ranunculus - Another lovely liver, built along smaller lines than the class winner but carries his masculine head coupled with his bone and substance leaves no doubt he’s a male. I did love his head and correctly coloured amber eyes. Elegantly arched neck, good forehand, straight fores with a good spring to his pasterns into cat feet. Chest down to his elbows and good length of rib cage leading to strong loin. Good width of thigh and bend of stifle. His movement is where he really comes alive. Accurate footfall in his side gait, holds his topline well, drops his head forward and out to get that reach and clean tracking out and back.
3. 59. Page & Howell’s Olilou Heavenly Hamilton By Winflash
Open Dog (7/1)
1. 58. Page & Howell’s Ch Bleize De Montjuic At Winflash (Imp USA) - This powerhouse black male makes an impressive picture on the stand. Tall but with the substance to carry it well. Masculine head, ghost face but with full pigmentation around his eyes giving him a very striking appearance. Good width of skull, balanced with his length of muzzle. Strong neck, well defined withers and muscular shoulders. Excellent chest for both width and depth, plenty of heart and lung room. Well boned fores, good tight feet. His topline is strong leading back to a solid loin, his smoothly curving underline gives him a lovely shape. Moderately angulated at the back with clean, strong hocks. In hard condition all through. Moved with great drive, accurate and clean with good ground covering action.
2. 62. Phillip & Dunnachie’s Ch Dvojica Enrique - Slightly smaller but no less impressive male. He has a clean, well balanced outline. Elegant head, nice width to his skull, dark eyes with good black pigment. Good reach of neck into well placed shoulders, good length of upper arm. Well off for bone, straight fores, good feet. Ribs down to elbows and well sprung. Hold his topline well both standing and moving. Correct tailset and carriage. Great width of thigh, with excellent muscling. Good bend of stifle and strong hocks. Moved fluidly around the ring with strong drive from the rear.
3. 61. Pearson’s Swiss Ch Kelevra Dill or No Dill JW
Champion Dog (5/0) A really tough class, full of quality and every single one of them a worthy champion and absolute credit to their breed.
1. 82. Townson & Pardoe’s Ch Kaytoni Oh What A Night With Daymadals - See main awards above.
2. 43. Locke-McFadzean’s Ch Caprillis Panache Over Sassafras (Imp USA) - This striking black is so engaging. He really grabs your attention when he enters the ring. Excellent head, balanced skull to muzzle ratio, dark eyes and good ears. Excellent reach of his well muscled neck, into good lay of shoulder and balanced length of upper arm. Well off for bone and substance all through, good spring of pastern into tight feet. Excellent ribbing, well sprung and carried well back into a strong loin. Great topline, excellent rear angulation and so well conditioned. On the move, he covers the ground with ease, he has a long stride and excellent driving action. Personally I preferred the overall body proportions of the first dog but this boy is extremely impressive.
3. 10. Christie’s Ch Sophtspot Gold Dust JW
Veteran Dog (4/1)
1. 49. Neath-Duggan & Baker’s Ch Buffrey Incognito By Dalleaf JW VW - See main awards above.
2. 90. Wallington’s Sophtspot In The Zone - He pushed the first dog all the way, it wasn’t a straightforward decision. This boy is also handsome with a masculine head. Well balanced, nicely boned, good feet, nice depth and width of chest. He has good angulation at the back end and is well muscled all through. Just couldn’t quite match the length of stride of that first dog but he was messing around of the move, so I do wonder what might have happened if he really got his head down and concentrated on the job.
3. 46. Marley & Libbey’s Bellilli’s D’amore De Loin ShCM ShCEX VW
Open Dog Stakes (1/0)
1. 47. McVicar’s Dalfin Almond Slice - Lovely, handsome head on this liver boy, nice length and breadth to his skull and muzzle. Correct amber eye colour and good ears. Nicely arched neck, into well defined withers, he could have a bit more lay of shoulder. He has good bone and straight fores. Nice tight feet. Well ribbed, strong through his topline and into a muscular, compact loin. Well muscled hinds, good bend of stifle and clean hocks. He was having the best day ever! Trotting around the ring with exuberance.
Baby Puppy Bitch (2/0)
1. 13. Cobb Gain’s Salvadorada Kit Kat In Kalokairie - See main awards above.
2. 75. Shepherd’s Sevenmoons Treasured Maple For Dalfire - This little one is already so well trained for show, she knew the job and was working her little socks off for her handler. Prettiest of heads with a sweet expression, dark eyes, using her ears well. Not as well off for bone at this stage as the first placed in class and made along smaller lines all through. She has nice feet. Her depth of chest is balanced with her height. Nicely angled at the back. Moved with a nice action for one so very young. A proper showgirl in the making.
Minor Puppy Bitch (3/1)
1. 56. Norgrove’s Perdita’s Bonnie Bean With Sassydals - Tall black spotted girl who is in her leggy stage at the moment. So full of confidence and sass. Very pretty, elegant head. Dark eyes of correct shape. Nice length to her neck, front angulation looks to be balanced. Nicely boned fores, good tight feet. Chest needs to fill out but she is just six months so this should happen in time. She has a good length to her rib cage. Strong through her topline both standing and moving. Muscling is developing well. Good bend of stifle. Moved with that typical puppy looseness which is perfectly acceptable at this stage. She was loving her first show!
2. 77. Smith’s Tockica First Love For Spotamour - By the time we met, this little one was done with playing show dog and I can’t blame her. I want to make it 100% clear, this was not a temperament issue, it’s just a very young pup who had just had enough. I note that she was entered in another class from which the handler withdrew which is absolutely the correct decision, we have seen potentially fabulous dogs ruined by judges or handlers trying to force youngsters to do things they don’t want to do. From what I did see she looks a nice little pup, smaller all over than the first but still balanced. Dark eyes and pretty head. Good bone for her size and good ribbing. Hopefully we will meet again when she’s older and the day is not quite so dreary.
Puppy Bitch (5/0)
1. 86. Turnbull & Wilkins’ Salvadorada Je T’adore - See main awards above.
2. 73. Sampson’s Dalstorm Just Waltzing - Very sweet little liver bitch. She has a pretty head, excellent pigmentation, nice length of skull and muzzle. Correct amber eye colouring, just flying her ears today (probably due to the weather). Her length of neck is in good balance with her size, forehand looks to be nicely angled. Good for bone, again this is in balance. Good spring to her ribs and carried well back, loin is of correct length. Moderately angled through her hinds and muscling is coming along well. On the move, she did not quite have the strength in topline and rear drive as the first but she is 10 months old and this will firm up as she matures.
3. 45. Lockhart’s Dalfire Infared
Junior Bitch (10/1) A very tough class, full of quality which bodes well for the future of the breed. All these girls are at different stages of development and I expect there will be lots of changing of places as they mature.
1. 36. Hurst’s Dvojica Firefly For Finnidal - See main awards above.
2. 3. Bridge & Meyer’s Akoni Buttery D’or - Lovely little black spotted youngster who presents an elegant outline on the stand. Very pretty face, well balanced skull and muzzle. Excellent dark eye. She has a good reach of neck into a nicely constructed forehand. Nicely boned with tight cat feet. She has an excellent width and depth of chest already, ribs down to her elbows which fit closely and smoothly into her well sprung ribs. Good topline which has that slight arch over the loin. Rear angulation isn’t overdone, she does need to develop a bit more muscle. She moved so well, her side gait was flowing and she has a strong rear action.
3. 44. Locke-McFadzean & Lopes’ Fortuna Phoenix Rising Over Sassafras (Imp USA)
Yearling Bitch (3/1)
1. 68. Quayle’s Cubalibre Wishing Star - Beautiful 14 month old liver, such an elegant old fashioned type of head. Rich liver pigment and dark amber eyes. Good reach of neck, clean over the withers and good lay of shoulder. Well boned, excellent spring of pastern and tight cat feet. Excellent length to her rib cage, chest is deep and capacious. Strong through the topline into well muscled loin. Excellent rear angulation and strong hocks. Very clean and precise on the move, tracks up accurately both from the side and on the out and back.
2. 9. Burrows’ Shacarlu Bee Happy - Strikingly spotted black girl, with a very outgoing personality. Super pretty head, gentle angles and good balance of muzzle to skull. Good neck, clean over the withers and a nice shape to her chest. Good for bone, nice tight feet. She has a strong topline and loin and curving underline. Balanced through her rear angulation with good muscling. Moved well around the ring, just a touch close behind when going away.
Novice Bitch (7/3)
1. 3. Bridge & Meyer’ Akoni Buttery D’or - Repeat.
2. 11. Christie’s Sophtspot Sugar Plum - This one wasn’t fazed at all by the conditions, it just seemed like she was having the best day of her life. So happy, confident, outgoing and desperate to say hello. Charming. I liked her pretty head, dark eyes, super black pigment. She has a nice long neck, into well defined withers. For me, I would like that chest to drop a bit more to balance out her body depth to length of leg proportions. She has good bone and tight feet. Carries her topline well, into a well set tail. Good bend of stifle, muscling is coming along nicely. Moved with enthusiasm. She is only just out of puppy so has plenty of time and I expect she will be winning hearts for many years to come.
3. 93. Ward’s Louabidora Show Stopper At Frankish
Graduate Bitch (5/1)
1. 38. Jenkins & Ridgway’s Luccombe Strawberry Ripple - Striking 2 year old liver bitch who has really matured well since I last judged her as a puppy. She’s getting her adult shape now instead of the roly puppy body she had last time. On the larger side but with the bone and substance to carry it well and in no way losing her femininity. Beautifully constructed head with great pigmentation and eye colour. Lovely neck, smoothly flowing front angulation. Excellent feet. Strong through her topline, ribs carried well back and cleanly muscled loin. Rear angulation is excellent, she has very strong hocks which she uses to advantage to drive around the ring. Her movement is fast but effortless. I liked that the handler gives her enough lead to stride out.
2. 57. Pace’s Sadiedel’s Arab Girl JW - Finer built bitch who is actually still a junior but is mature enough to compete with the older girls. I like her body proportions but would prefer more bone to balance her overall size. Pretty head, dark eyes and really makes good use of her ears. Nice reach of neck, great width and depth of chest. I would like her toes to have slightly more arch to get those feet more cat like. Carries her topline well and has a good length of loin. Well angulated at the rear, well muscled all through with strong hocks. Active mover, covering the ground well.
3. 25. Herd’s Dotlun Dancing Queen At Ricoh
Post Graduate Bitch (6/0)
1. 52. Newton & Newton-O’Brien’s Cotterspot Nidderdale Lady Of Chizzmic - Super 3 year old black bitch, good for size and overall balance. Very bold pigmentation, dark eyes, uses her ears well. Great length to her neck into very well constructed front. Defined withers with smooth and hard muscling through her shoulders and down into her chest. Lovely amount of bone, straight fores, excellent feet. Good ribbing, nicely tucked up underline and strong loin. Held her topline well. Well angulated at the back but not overdone. Moved with real drive, active and enthusiastic but no waste of energy.
2. 83. Townson & Pardoe’s Sophtspot Phantasia For Daymadals - Slightly finer in build than the first but another very striking girl. I liked her overall balance and flowing outline. Feminine head, dark eyes with bright expression. Reachy neck, good shoulder and upper arm angulation with enough bone for her size. Nice depth of chest, good heart room. Correct topline and shapely underline. Good length of loin and correct tailset. Good bend of stifle and well defined hocks. Nice length of stride as she went around the ring, good ground covering action.
3. 50. Neath-Duggan & Coyne’s Kelevra Pickle My Fennel With Buffrey JW
Limit Bitch (14/3) This was one of the classes where I felt the conditions had gotten to several of them. I’ve seen some of these girls move so much better previously, however I can only judge them as they are presented to me on the day.
1. 18. Finch’s Sophtspot Kalamity Jane With Dalticino - An exceptionally elegant black spotted girl. She is on the taller side however she’s balanced. She makes a fluid outline on the stand, beautiful feminine head with dark eyes and pigmentation. She has a good reach of neck, very clean through the withers into good front angulation. The correct amount of bone, in balance with her overall proportions. Excellent cat feet. Capacious chest, well sprung ribs, excellent topline and underline. Rear angulation complements the front and she is in fit, hard condition all through. There is nothing overdone in anyway on her, it all just fits together nicely. She definitely benefited from the movement. She started out a little erratic with her runner but the more she moved, the more she settled and her runner was able to loosen the lead to allow for her head to drop and neck to lengthen to get the forward reach that I was looking for. Well done.
2. 60. Page’s Winflash Chanel Paris - Another fabulous girl. She was so keen to be doing her job today, she was right up on her toes and practically bouncing. Lovely head and expression, dark eyes, excellent use of her ears. She has a good reach of neck, into good shoulder placement just not quite as clean over the withers as the first. Great chest, well off for bone. Excellent feet. Ribcage meets her elbows and she has good width all through. Holds her topline well, well muscled loin, leading into correct tailset. Great angulation of her hind, muscular thighs and defined hocks. Moved fluidly around the ring with an excellent stride.
3. 15. Pickup’s Dotlun English Rose At Roadcoach
Open Bitch (3/0)
1. 19. Finlay’s Dvojica Excuse My French At Dalfin JW - See main awards above.
2. 8. Burrows’ Ellemstra Tough Cookie At Shacarlu - Beautiful, happy, confident, outgoing girl who has personality to spare. Very elegant all through. Feminine head, good swould prefer a slightly darker eye. Arched, reachy neck into clean withers. Good bone and feet. Excellent depth to her chest with well sprung ribs. Nice topline and great tuck up. Well angulated at the back with good muscling to her thighs. On the move she was very quick and active but does have a tendency to pull away from her handler which knocks her out of line.
3. 32. Hughes’ Taliory Take Aim Fusilier Of Carodal
Champion Bitch (3/0) A small but perfectly formed class of quality girls. Absolutely a privilege to go over them.
1. 70. Richardson’s Ch Mapplewell Limited Edition - Absolutely fantastic black spotted girl. She is petite but really makes an impact. Really pretty head with a cheeky expression. She has the darkest of eyes and uses her ears so well. Excellent neck leading into clean, well defined withers with good lay of shoulder. Great chest, not overdone but just fits together so nicely. Bone is in balance with her size, great fat feet. Excellent ribbing, carried well back to a nice length of loin. Strong through the topline into correct tailset and carriage. Balanced again through her rear angulation. So well muscled with a nice width to her thigh. Her movement was beautiful. Shown on a loose lead which enabled her to really show off that front reach and powerful driving action.
2. 42. Lamb’s Ch Dalpetro Dotty JW - Another very eye catching bitch. Elegantly made with plenty of substance. She has a shapely outline when standing. Feminine, well constructed head, dark eyes good ear shape and carriage. Nicely arched neck, good lay of shoulder and angulation of front. Nicely off for bone, good pasterns and feet. Well sprung ribs, leading back into a good length of loin. Strong topline and good muscling of her hind legs with well bent stifle and excellent width of thigh. Moved well, not quite as much reach in front as the first.
3. 87. Valentine’s Ch Wrendragge Rainbow Dream
Veteran Bitch (6/0)
1. 20. Gardner’s Ch Dvojica Chilli Chutney For Wrendragge JW - See main awards above.
2. 37. Jenkins & Ridgway’s Luccombe Strawberry Kisses VW - I have always loved this black beauty and I still do. She is 9 years old now and still so fluid in her outline. Elegant, old fashioned head, darkest of eyes and excellent pigmentation. Great reach of neck, good through the withers and front angulation. Her chest is deep and capacious. Good bone, straight fores into well sprung pasterns, very good feet. Holds her topline steady, she is strong through the loin, great rear angulation and strong hocks. Muscling is still excellent throughout. Striding out well around the ring, with an easy rhythmic gait.
3. 17. Finch’s Sophtspot Hocus Pocus At Dalticino
Open Bitch Stakes (1/0)
1. 30. Hobbs & Whiting’s Ch Sophtspot Knockout At Rapanooey - What a pretty girl this is. Such a gentle head with the darkest of eyes and very cheeky disposition. Cleanly built with excellent bone and substance, lovely tight feet. Great depth to her chest, well ribbed and good length to loin. Rear angulation is good, with a nice turn of stifle and defined hocks. There is just a slight laxity in her hips, due to recent maternity duties, which means her rear action was a touch wider than I would like. But give her another couple of months of conditioning and she’ll be back to troubling the best.
