What do breed club members think of the Health Survey we are being asked to complete?
Do you think such a small sample with a limited number questions can be of any usefulness as to the current state of the breed?
My own view would be that it does not because a dog could be given a clean bill of health even though it could be suffering from other condition/s not asked for in the survey.
It has been pointed out that this survey is only a precursor to a full one, probably next year. |

To be honest
In my opinion....
It is not going to answer any real questions.
I have answers I want to give, but, can't as they are not covered, so, no point in filling it in.
However I do have other problems:
1. Anonymous ?
If I enter D.O.B, Reg name of dog ?
I don't have a problem, as, I haven't bred any of the dogs that would be included, but, surely you would get better answers with a totally anonymous survey.
2. Neutered
No option to say why...Choice is one thing, but, there are other reasons and no option to state.
Although I did submit the last survey that was done, I will not be submitting this one until it is more comprehensive & gives breeder's, owners (including pet owners) a chance to participate anonymously.

Kay, you don't have to enter the name of your dog/s or your own name; it can be completely anonymous. It only asks for dog's year of birth; it'd be impossible to identify a dog from that!
I've chosen to give more information than asked for (age of neutering, for example) in case it helps the design of a more comprehensive survey. |

It does ask for cause of death in question one Julie.
No point in giving extra information jeangenie because not every one else will, so its irrelevant and won't be of any use. |

It asks for cause of death in Question 1! 
In the introduction they say :By repeating thestudy periodically, and perhaps in a more detailed form, we can gain an understanding of how the incidence of major health issues might be changing - for better or worse.
By giving more information and showing what might be relevant the next survey might ask for more detailed and useful answers. |

Pointless repeating this study again as its not a full study.
"Perhaps in a more detailed form." The word perhaps is a worry it means maybe we will maybe we won't.
If the survey wants extra information it should ask for it, any extra given at this time is worthless as it will not represent the sample as a whole.
This survey is assuming what the major health issues are. The form could be filled in honestly and show a dog/s to be healthy, but could be suffering from something not on the list and therefor in reality be unhealthy.
We are told its a snapshot of breed health but its only a snapshot within the Breed club members. Or a snapshot within a snapshot.
The clubs could have done more to promote this survey, on their web site, to inform everyone before hand what they were collecting and why and how they are going to use the results and a time scale for an in-depth one to follow.
I don't actually think many breed club members will see this thread as not many use this forum.

Whatever.  I'm happy to share any health information if it might be of possible use in the future.
I think it's a very good start and I hope they make it more in-depth and available to a wider dally ownership next time. |

If survey had one more question such as:-
How many of the dogs listed in question one have what you consider to be a serious health problem/s not already mentioned in this survey.
This would then show how many dogs have a problem with what is in the survey and how many have other problems. |

Next survey is supposed to be a full one so that question should't be needed, but you never know there is always a dog with something different.
It's this survey that looks half baked. |
