Very Happy hello everyone, my name is Vicky I live in the North East and have a 2 year old dalmatian called Skye. She is a family pet with no intention of ever being a show dog but we did think about breeding her maybe just the once. so any advice would be very welcome

Hello Vicky,
the best thing to do, is get the advice direct from your girls breeder!
who should point you in the right direction Wink both in respect of what to do, if she should be bred from & also the most suitable stud to use.

Vicky,

Thank you for placing your post on the forum. To breed or not to breed? Is a huge question that can not be answered quickly. As Julie has already stated your girls breeder may wish to be involved or your pedigree may have been endorsed. There is no quick answer but you do have a long time to think seriously about such an undertaking.

Please take the time to read all relevant post on the forum about breeding and check out the information section too. Members of the forum will offer their advice and benefit of their experiences too.

Remember we are custodians of this wonderful breed therfore care should be taken to ensure that we breed for the right reasons only! Good Luck.

Ribblehill, dalmatianists do it faster (run that is!)

Vicky, please consider the following befor you contemplate breeding a litter & the great responsability that goes with it! First things first!
Here are the important questions you to need answer for your self, before you contemplate the SERIOUS task of breeding a litter, dont just add to the allready over flowing market of Dalmatian puppies! YOU are responsable for those many little lives you bring into the world!

1. Is your bitch of good breeding & good quality.
2. Is she of sound temperment.
3. Are you prepered to keep the pups for as long as it may take to find the
best homes for them, i have kept pups until they are 5 months!
4. are you going to take your offspring back when things dont turn out to be permanent. imagine, your girl in season & you have to take 2 males back! all these things are important, dont breed for the sake of breeding,
your bitch & welfare deserve better than that!

Vicky, like Julie I too have still had pups on my hands at 5 months - fortunately only one, but then there were only 3 in the litter.
