I am nearly a Dalmatian owner! We had 2 Labradors but have been without a dog for just over a year and have taken the decision to get a Dalmatian. We are viewing a litter of puppies on Saturday so assuming all goes OK, we should be owners of an 8 week old girl at the beginning of May.
So does anyone have any tips on raising a Dalmatian puppy (its 15 years since we had a puppy). We've read up loads on the breed but nothing is better than hearing from owners.
Also, is anyone in the South East? We've struggled to find any Dalmatians anywhere near us, from our searches for breeders it seems to be a 'Northern' breed!
Now we just need to start thinking up names! |

Hi im from Hampshire welcome to the forum. I recommend lots of sleep because when pup comes home you wont be getting that much of it. |

Good choice! I'm from Hampshire too and there are a few of us southerners about.
There's lots of advice on here and lots of support too. Good luck. _________________ Valerie, Cassie and Alfred the Great |

Hello
We are from Essex and on our 3rd Dallie.we had to travel to Derbyshire for our present girl.
Hard work and great fun.
I would suggest a large indoor crate to keep pup safe when you can't watch her.
A good training class as soon as possible.
A sense of humour, and patience, and lots of time for socialisation.
Oh and lots of safe chew toys....the 'kong' make are the strongest. _________________ Carol and Daisy X |

We are in West Sussex and very rarely see Dalmatians around here. Where are you in the South East because there may be someone on here near to you?

Hello and welcome!
Dalmatians are just the best!
Hard work at times, but so very rewarding. The forum is brilliant for advice - if you use the Search facility you can find the answer to almost anything (Dalmatian related ).
I think early training is essential - they are such strong dogs, both mentally and physically, that it's best to teach them from an early age that you are the most important thing in their world! We found short sessions (5 minutes) and lots of praise was the way to go . Our boy, Flekk, is just two and we still do training with him, just so he doesn't forget _________________ Ann, Kenny & Flekk |

Hello and welcome. Sorry about your older dogs but hope that the excitement of a new pup helps heal the heartache. If you look on the club info at the top of the forum and go to local contacts you will find the local people for Kent. Give any of them a call if you want some local help and advice. One of them - Colin Healey - is sometimes on here so may give you a wave.
Have a look through the old threads on here and ask any questions you want. Lots of different points of view and plenty of adviuce.
Look forward to hearing all about your pup. _________________ Maggi, Caper & Poppy (Hon. Spot)- Banjoliers, Faithful Followers and Forum Wanderers. |
