Perfectly OK - both her parents must carry the liver gene and it is possible that she carries it too. Was one of her parents liver themselves? If so she will definitely carry it - if not it is a guessing game. _________________ Maggi, Caper & Poppy (Hon. Spot)- Banjoliers, Faithful Followers and Forum Wanderers. |

both Poellas parents were black spotted however on her dads side her grandmother is liver spotted and her great, great grandmother from her mums side is liver spotted. there seems to be liver spotted in all the litters from both sides though. |

Yes, that's perfectly normal. The recessive liver gene can be carried for many generations without showing itself until it meets another 'hidden' liver gene.
In my last litter the stud dog was black spotted, as had been his parents, grandparents, great-grandparents all the way back to the fifth generation when his gt-gt-grandmother was liver. Nobody could recall any of the siblings on that side being liver either. My bitch was liver, and lo and behold, the litter was half black puppies and half liver puppies! The liver gene had been carried down the sire's family for five generations without manifesting. |

Purdy was black spotted, so was her mum, her mums mum, all her siblings and so was her dad.
She had a litter of 12 pups, 11 black and one liver. the sire was black so i guess they carry the gene and it randomly appears. _________________ Tasha *&* Purdy;; <3 |

For that to have happened, both Purdy and the sire must have carried the liver gene. It often pops up after a few generations and take speople by surprise. _________________ Maggi, Caper & Poppy (Hon. Spot)- Banjoliers, Faithful Followers and Forum Wanderers. |
